Bethlehem Lutheran Church issued the following announcement on Nov. 1.
We grieve with the community of Tree of Life and all our Jewish neighbors.
As the church that bears Luther’s name, we must continue to acknowledge, reject and repudiate his anti-Semitic writings. Remembering especially our Jewish neighbors at Tree of Life Congregation in Pittsburgh, we grieve our complicity in this history of hatred and pledge to root out this deadly bigotry.
The attached statement was adopted by the ELCA Church Council on April 18, 1994.
