Former state university employee Waterfield paid in $54K to pension fund, could collect $792K in retirement

Former state university employee Judy Waterfield, who retired in October 2018, saved $53,654 toward a pension over 20 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Waterfield would collect as much as $792,136, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes DeKalb Times.

The projection assumes Waterfield received $16,650 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Waterfield will have already received $69,660 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
