City of Sandwich City Council met Dec. 23.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

Mayor Robinson called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.

Pledge of Alligiance

Present: Mayor Robinson, Deputy Clerk Jim Teckenbrock, Aldermen Chmielewski, Dell, Kelleher, Killey, Kreinbrink, Redden and Surratt

Also present: Attorney Kevin Buick, Department of Public Works and City Engineer Horak, EMA Director Ciciora, Wes Levy. Todd Steffens and Sgt Ikemire

Absent: Clerk li and City Treasurer Webber

Mayor Robinson asked for any audience comments: none were asked

Mayor Robinson asked for Motion to adopt the Consent Agenda as a whole: Motion was made by Alderman Kelleher and 2nd by Alderwoman Chmielewski. Motion carried 8-0 with no comments or changes.

Mayor asked for a motion to pass Ordinance 2019-19 entitled "Annual Tax Levy" will be an increase of 4.95% at $ 1,548,591.00 and represents a tax increase of $ 19.00 per $ 100,000.00 equalized assessed valuation. Tax levy must be filed by Tuesday, December 31, 2019. Alderman Redden made a motion to approve, motion was 2nd by Alderman Surratt. Motion carried 8-0.

Mayor asked for a motion to pass Ordinance 2019-20 entitled "An Ordinance Amending Chapter 78 Taxation" by Creating a New Article V, Entitled "Municipal Cannabis Retailers Occupation Tax" presented for passage. A tax will be imposed on businesses selling retail cannabis at 3% gross receipts from sales. Said Ordinance amends Chapter 78 of the Municipal Code by adding a new Article V. Motion to approve made by Alderman Kelleher and 2nd by Alderman Surratt. Motion carried 7-1 with Alderman Redden voting Nay.

Mayor Robinson noted no meeting on 5th Monday December 30, 2019.

Mentioned that police had notified all establishments that sell Liquor about sales now allwed on certain Holdays. Sgt Ikemire mentioned some places were going to do the same as in the past even with the change others welcomed the change.
