The DeKalb County Board has allocated millions in spending on road projects designed to bring the county’s roads and bridges up to speed.

According to the Daily Chronicle, $2.3 million was set aside for the project at an April 15 virtual meeting, during which three countywide maintenance projects were also approved.

Among them is a contract with South Roxanna-based Corrective Asphalt Materials for the application of about 116,000 square yards of asphalt sealer on Peace and Plank roads.

DeKalb County Board Chairman Mark Pietrowski added that talks have commenced with countywide leaders and school superintendents about the impact the ongoing COVID-19 crisis could have on property tax revenues.

“We’re coming up with a proposal that the Finance Committee is going to be discussing,” he said. “I’m intentionally being a little vague on it just because we don’t have anything formalized yet.”

Thus far, the County Board has approved projects that include the targeted $315,000 replacement of the bridge over Indian Creek carrying Suydan Road in Paw Paw.
