The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is in its seventh month, and already overwhelmed DeKalb County service organizations are only seeing the local need for assistance grow as residents continue to suffer from the economic crisis created by restrictions related to the pandemic.
Local service organizations continue to be swamped by requests for help with everything from food to housing and paying bills, according to the Daily Chronicle. Yet, those need are only growing.
Family Service Agency of DeKalb County Executive Director Tynisha Clegg said they are still receiving nonstop calls for assistance. They have increased their employees from two to six to meet the demand.
“We’ve more than tripled our staff capacity to respond to inquiries because there is an increased need in our community,” Clegg said. “We have hundreds of calls a week asking for assistance. We’ve helped more than 500 people so far.”
Those in need of assistance can find more information at the agency's website.
