Rep. Tom Demmer (R-Dixon) joined in the historic celebration of an Illinois village’s three centuries.
“The village of Prairie du Rocher, Illinois, along the Mississippi River, was founded by French settlers in 1722 as one of the first European settlements in what is now Illinois,” Demmer wrote on Facebook. "I was glad to join Rep. David Friess and Sen. Terri Bryant to present a House Resolution to Village President Mark Wilson at a big festival celebrating their 300th birthday!"
Prairie Du Rocher is hosting 300th anniversary celebrations throughout the year. The fun started with Mardi Gras events in February, the birthday celebration on July 9 and 10, and will continue throughout the year. The final celebration is on Dec. 4 for “La Fete de Noel.”
WSILTV reported Rep. Mike Bost (R-Murphysboro) worked on legislation to make the village into a national park.
On June 28, Demmer won the Republican nomination for Illinois State Treasurer.
“Illinois voters spoke and elected me to be the Republican nominee for State Treasurer and I’m proud to earn their support. Illinois needs a fresh start! During Mike Frerichs’ 15 years in Springfield, he’s fallen for just about everything--higher taxes, more spending, he’s even supported a tax on retirement income while turning a blind eye to the corruption in his own party. I’m running for State Treasurer because Illinois families need a fiscal watchdog on their side to clean up Springfield and stop the tax hikes," said Demmer.
At a press conference on May 12, Demmer expressed his dissatisfaction with the budget and its projects for Democratic-leaning districts.
"This is what happens when a budget gets put together at the last minute and passed in the middle of the night. Democrats needed to include this kind of pork in order to buy off the votes they need to ram through another partisan and gimmick-filled budget," Demmer said. "I think Illinoisans should rightfully ask 'do we want the Illinois government to be set up for an inevitable tax increase in the future at a time of record inflation across the country? Is it wise to spend taxpayer dollars on pork projects used to buy off votes from members?' I think most Illinoisans would say no."
