After a short break, the Northern Illinois University wrestling team returns to the mat this Saturday (Feb. 4) for a matchup with Buffalo at 1 p.m. inside the Convocation Center. The match will coincide with NIU gymnastics' tri-meet with Simpson College and Kent State for a free "Beauty and the Beast" event.
The Huskies (6-4, 3-1 MAC) return to the friendly confides of the Convocation Center after eight-straight road duals spanning nearly 12 weeks.
NIU, No. 3 in the MAC West, is coming off a big 23-10 road win over Ohio (3-7, 2-2 MAC) Jan. 20. The Huskies dismantled the Bobcats after winning the initial six bouts and finishing the evening with Terrese Aaron's tech fall at 285.
Buffalo (7-9, 3-0 MAC) enters the contest as the only undefeated team in league competition and atop the MAC West Division. The Bulls most recently defeated Kent State (0-9, 0-4 MAC) 22-13 in Buffalo.
The last time NIU and Buffalo met, the Huskies were edged 17-15 after the Bulls sparked a late upper-weight rally. However, NIU leads the all-time series by a margin of 14-9.
Looking ahead, NIU is next in action Feb. 10 when No. 14 Northwestern comes to DeKalb for a prime time matchup which will broadcast on ESPN+.
