The Somonauk Public Library District will hold a story hour event by actor Kirk Cameron and BRAVE Books.

The event will take place in Meeting Room at 1 p.m. on Aug. 5. BRAVE Books says its mission is to instill positive values and moral principles in young minds. The organization says the event promises to be an engaging and educational experience for children and families in the community.

"We are on a mission to turn our nation back to God. Are you with us? If so, we want to See YOU at the Library on August 5!" BRAVE Books said on its website.

BRAVE Books says it seeks to foster a sense of community and unity among families, pastors, teachers, and local representatives as they come together at their local libraries to celebrate the virtues of faith, hope, and love.

“Kirk Cameron, alongside BRAVE Books, have been visiting libraries and holding story hours across the country to teach kids about faith, hope, and love," a press release said. "On August 5, 2023 we are calling on all families who love God and love America to gather at our local public libraries to pray, sing, and read BRAVE Books and other books of virtue. Imagine thousands of local public libraries filled by you and your friends, your pastors, your teachers and your local representatives on this date.”

According to its website, BRAVE Books is a Christian conservative company with a mission to provide alternative children's literature that promotes traditional American values and helps parents instill a love of truth in their children to withstand harmful progressive influences. It aims to create a unique learning experience through epic adventure stories that equip children with a brave spirit to combat the challenges faced by the nation today.

The event comes as the Illinois Freedom Caucus has called for local libraries to leave the Chicago-based American Library Association after its hiring of president, Emily Drabinski. The Caucus has suggested Drabinski will use her position to promote extreme ideologies, leading them to call for disassociation from the ALA and its alleged shift towards a "woke agenda.”

“I just cannot believe that a Marxist lesbian who believes that collective power is possible to build and can be wielded for a better world is the president-elect of @ALALibrary. I am so excited for what we will do together. Solidarity! And my mom is SO PROUD I love you mom.' (@edrabinski),” Drabinski said on Twitter after getting the job.

The State of Montana notably pulled out of the ALA after Drabinski was named president, Prairie State Wire reported.
