City of Dekalb Airport Advisory Board met May 28.

The Airport Advisory board of the City of DeKalb, Illinois, held a regular meeting on May 28, 2024, at the DeKalb Taylor Municipal Airport, 3232 Pleasant Street, DeKalb, Illinois, in the West Community Hangar.

Chair Rober Owens called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

A. ROLL CALL

Chair Robert Owens called the roll, and the following members of the Airport Advisory Board were present; Robert Owens/ Chair, Bernard Pupino/Vice-Chair, James Rhoades, Mark Williams, Scott Carlson, and Matt Duffy. Also present were Airport Operations Manager Ben Trompeter and Andy Raih.

B. APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA

James Rhoades moved to approve the agenda as presented; seconded by Scott Carlson. Motion passes by a majority voice vote of those present.

C. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES

Matt Duffy moved to approve the April 23, 2024; minutes as presented; seconded by Scott Carlson. Motion passed by a majority voice vote of those present.

D. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION

Chair Robert Owens discussed the potential of speaking with larger corporations that have moved to the area in recent years to open a conversation on the economic impacts of the airport to the area.

E. OLD BUSINESS

1. Apron Reconstruction Project (DKB-4924)

Andy Raih updated the board that the project is scheduled to begin immediately following the AirVenture Oshkosh event held annually in Wisconsin. The timing is deliberate as the event brings a large influx in transient aircraft to DTMA for fueling purposes.

F. NEW BUSINESS

1. Rehabilitate Runway 9/27 (DKB-5063)

Andy Raih updated the board on the status of the runway resurfacing project. Update included the closing of the runway May 27, 2024. Engineering work was in progress at the time of the advisory board meeting with milling operations scheduled to begin later in the week.

2. DeKalb Airport Solar

An update was given to the advisory board on the status of the solar project immediately north of the main FBO entrance on airport land. The project construction is scheduled to begin September 1, 2024, pending final IDA approval to proceed.

At this time in the meeting Andy Raih took a moment to update the board on the financial status of the airport upon receiving the final audit report from fiscal year 2023. The airport finished FY23 with a net increase of approximately $360,000. This puts the airport in a self-sustainable budgetary position and sets a positive stage for years to come.

O. ADJOURNMENT

Bernard Pupino moved to adjourn, the motion was seconded by Scott Carlson, the motion passed by a majority voice vote of those present.
