As the holiday season approaches, communities across Illinois are embracing their unique traditions to celebrate and foster a sense of togetherness. In Woodstock, the Christmas spirit is ushered in with the Lighting of the Square event, where downtown lights up in a dazzling display accompanied by various activities including a visit from Santa.

East Peoria continues its nearly 40-year tradition with the Festival of Lights. The highlight is the Parade of Lights featuring illuminated floats such as a lighted steam engine and "E.P. Urbana's Candlestick Lane has been attracting visitors for over 60 years. The tradition started in the early 1960s when neighbors created elaborate light displays that now draw crowds eager to witness thousands of twinkling lights.

Effingham hosts Wonderland in Lights at Community Park, featuring themed displays like a nativity scene and reindeer. Visitors can enhance their experience by tuning into holiday music while driving through.

St. Charles celebrates with Holiday Homecoming, which includes a tree-lighting ceremony and Electric Christmas Parade. Families enjoy carolers, sleigh rides, and treats from local vendors during this two-day event.

Alton's Christmas Wonderland at Rock Spring Park features over four million lights for visitors to admire either by car or on foot. Proceeds support local charities, adding goodwill to the festivities.

Aurora’s Phillips Park presents Holiday Magic with free admission to see lit trees and whimsical displays along with special events like live music and crafts throughout December.
