State Representative Jeff Keicher from Sycamore experienced a disruption during his speech on the Illinois House floor. Keicher, a Republican, was addressing what he described as grandstanding and feigned anger by Illinois Democrats concerning federal issues beyond the state legislature's control. During his address, Democratic Speaker cut off his microphone.

Keicher expressed concern over the conduct in the House Chamber: “The deterioration of basic decorum and feigned anger taking place on a daily basis from the other side of the aisle in the House Chamber is unlike almost anything we have seen in years,” he stated. He emphasized that Illinois residents are frustrated with perceived indifference to meaningful legislative action.

“The people of Illinois are frustrated at the indifference from this body to take meaningful action that will improve their lives. Screaming about issues the state legislature has no control over while tens of thousands of unemployed Illinoisans want us to do something to make their lives better has to stop," Keicher said.

Keicher also criticized what he views as one-party rule in government: “We need to get to work for the people of this state. The fact that my remarks were cut off is beyond the pale and demonstrates exactly why a gerrymandered government under one-party rule is wrong.”

A video showed Keicher's microphone being cut at two minutes into his speech, which prevented him from concluding his remarks—a standard procedure not followed initially. Following protests by House Republican members, Keicher was allowed to finish speaking later in the session.
