DeKalb County is slated to undertake multiple road and transportation improvement projects in 2025. These projects aim to enhance connectivity and safety across different routes.
Barber Greene Road will see a resurfacing effort between Peace Road and Somonauk Road. Additionally, a bike and pedestrian trail will be constructed between Peace Road and Loves Road to support non-motorized transport.
Glidden Road will experience reconstruction of the south leg at the intersection with Base Line Road. This project aims to improve sight distance for better safety.
Significant changes are planned for Peace Road with the replacement of the Kishwaukee River bridge. The road will be widened to two lanes in each direction between IL Route 64 and Freed Road. This construction will be staged to maintain one-way traffic flow. Completion is expected in two phases: the first in 2025 and the latter by 2026, with ongoing work during the winter as weather permits.
Somonauk Road will undergo resurfacing from Chicago Road to US Route 30. Additionally, cross-road culvert extensions will occur between Perry Road and Keslinger Road.
Other smaller paving and resurfacing projects are scheduled throughout DeKalb County. The details are available in the DeKalb County Annual Budget.
In a related note, acknowledgment was given to the City of Sycamore for its updates and work on the upcoming resurfacing of Illinois Route 64.
