Illinois state agencies are facing significant challenges, according to a statement by House Republican Conference Chairman Jeff Keicher at a recent press conference held at the State Capitol. Keicher highlighted what he described as "misplaced priorities" of Illinois Democrats, urging for prompt action to tackle the ongoing disorder within state agencies under Governor J.B. Pritzker’s administration.

The Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS) has been unable to produce incident-specific reports on over 1,200 child deaths and more than 3,000 serious injuries since July 2018 in accordance with the Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act. This failure marks a significant concern for oversight and accountability within the department.

In parallel, the Department of Human Services (DHS) disclosed that the federal Department of Justice will conduct an audit of the State-Operated Developmental Centers (SODC). The audit will specifically focus on the Choate, Shapiro, and Mabley Centers, in response to allegations of abuse and neglect within these facilities.

Keicher’s call for action underscores the urgency required to address these alarming incidents and improve the situation within these critical state agencies.
