About 20.5 percent of the 5,088 degrees and certificates handed out by Northern Illinois University in 2017-18 were to students in business, management, marketing, and related support services programs, making them the most popular programs that year, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The agency's National Center for Education Statistics shows the public institution in Dekalb conferred 660 bachelor's degrees and 381 master's degrees in business, management, marketing, and related support services programs.

But the single most popular program was for a master's degree in general business administration and management. Data shows the school gave out 243 master's degrees in general business administration and management, followed by 214 bachelor's degrees in accounting and 201 bachelor's degrees in speech communication and rhetoric.

The university enrolled 17,169 students for 2017-18, including 12,788 in undergraduate programs and 4,381 in graduate programs.
