54 percent of applicants to Northern Illinois University were admitted for fall 2018

At Northern Illinois University, 84 percent of undergraduate students are traditional students - age 24 or younger - and 50 percent are female, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The four-year public institution in Dekalb enrolled 17,169 students in fall 2018, including 12,788 in undergraduate and 4,381 in graduate programs, data shows. 12.3 percent of undergraduates transferred from another college or university.

94 percent of undergraduates are residents of Illinois, and 5 percent are residents of other states. 1 percent are citizens of foreign countries.

The undergraduate student body is comprised mostly of students who identify as white (53 percent) and Hispanic or Latino (19 percent).

The school admitted 54 percent of the 14,157 students who applied for fall 2018. Of those who were admitted, 24 percent enrolled.
