Sycamore Community Unit School District 427 students suspended 63 times in a single school year

Sycamore Community Unit School District 427 reported 63 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 63 students during the year. That equates to 1.7 percent of the 3,763 students enrolled.

Of the 35 in-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 22 incidents. There were 13 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 34 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 28 out-of-school suspensions, 17 were given to boys and 11 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for violence without physical injury. The category includes 15 incidents. There were 11 incidents of unspecified reasons. For 16 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
